Kate Pipe, MA in Child and Youth Care from Toronto Metropolitan University, has been a school-based Child and Youth Counsellor for over 15 years and is now a Professor in Sheridan College’s Child and Youth Care program. As a course lead, she develops and maintains curriculum to ensure they are current, consistent, and relevant.
Kate also serves on the board of directors for the Child and Youth Care Educational Accreditation Board of Canada. Beginning her career in youth justice before transitioning into education, Kate has a strong passion for supporting children, youth, staff, and families through advocacy, mental health education, and inclusivity.
Kate has designed and implemented innovative mental health programs that were widely adopted by school-based Child and Youth Counsellors, as well as trained in and delivered evidence-based programs to support student mental health and wellbeing. In addition, Kate has led youth voice initiatives, including mental health clubs and committees in elementary and high schools, empowering students to advocate for the destigmatization of mental health and equipping them with tools, strategies, and support systems.
Kate has a passion for creativity, mental health and character education, having worked alongside Nelson the Giant Creative Inc. for over a decade, to develop and create empathy-based videos and content that supports anti-bullying initiatives. Kate is also the actor and creator of the Your TV Halton’s Catch Kindness with Ms. Kate and Nelson, the Giant.
